6 Things You Must Do in Key West
I finally got to check off a Bucket list item over Memorial Day weekend by taking a trip to Key West Florida! We went with a group of friends and had a blast! Now I will go ahead and inform you Key West has awesome nightlife all throughout Duval Street but being 5 months pregnant I didn't partake in much of that so here are my Top 6 things to do while your there!
1. Book a Snorkeling Trip!
Key West is home to the 3rd Largest Corral Reef in the world so this is an opportunity you don't want to miss! Even though is was pregnant I still had a blast and we were able to see anything from Sea Turtles to Barracuda to a Shark. We booked with a company called Fury and they are number one for tours and excursions. We had just as much fun on the boat ride to the reef as we did snorkeling! Check out the info here: https://www.furycat.com/#snorkeling
2. Take a Visit to Mallory Square
Mallory Square is the host of the Sunset Celebration every night and invites everyone to partake in watching the glowing pink and red sun sink into the Gulf of Mexico horizon. The nightly festival hosts visitors from all over the world who come to take part in the magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists, and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience. We saw a really cool acrobat perform and purchased local jewelry from a vendor before watching the sunset on the water.
3. Eat lunch a Dj's Clam Shack
Don't let the small size of Dj's Clam Shack fool you their food is TO DIE FOR! I had a garlic shrimp roll that was the best thing I ate the entire time I was in Key West and with an affordable pricetag, friendly employees, and delicious food its no wonder this spot was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on The Food Network.
4.Take your pic at The Southernmost Point
This is pretty much a given on your trip to Key West. You cant leave town with taking your pic at the famous Southernmost Point. It's an anchored concrete buoy marking the southernmost point in the continental United States. The large painted buoy is a tourist attraction established in 1983 by the city at the corner of South Street and Whitehead Street. Cuba is 90 miles south of this point in Key West. Just an FYI stop by there early in the morning because the is typically a very long line to get a pic!
5. Relax at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park
If your like me you didn't realize that Key West doesn't have a lot of actual Beach space. Due to being pregnant all I really wanted to do was lay on the beach and eat good food on my trip so that was kind of a bummer. They do have a gorgeous beach at the State Park however which we visited during our stay. The beach does charge an entrance fee which is just a few dollars but it is well worth it and they have chair rentals and a concession stand with a wide variety of food so you do not have to leave.
6. Enjoy Breakfast at Blue Heaven
When you think of the Key West vibe look no further than Blue Heaven Restaurant. The Menu has phenomenal breakfast and the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. The laid back beach vibe and live entertainment make it the perfect vacation spot not to mention the artists, fortune teller, and chickens roaming about. We loved it so much we ate there twice! If you stop by for a visit you will do the same!
If your looking for a great place to live on "Island Time" filled with entertainment, good food, and nightlife Key West is definitely the spot! Hopefully my list will help make sure you get the very best out of your trip!
Here's a few more pics from our visit :)
