Promolife: the dos and donts and how to survive the competition

Somewhere in a sea of college life, modeling, pageants, and marketing I fell into the crazy awesome world of promotional marketing. To me it doesn't get much better than living in the promo world especially in my college years. Its a no-brainer really: awesome pay, travel the U.S. going to all the best events, and use your marketing skills to represent some of the biggest brands in the world!

I embraced the life, I loved the life, and for 3 years that is ALL I did! Even in the professional job market I still get those urges to work events and enjoy the life. Ive learned a lot about the industry and made so many contacts throughout my time. Its a very competitive industry and your often "fighting" over getting booked for the best events.

Want to make sure your getting booked?? Heres some basic tips to help stay ahead of the game and ensure your not checking out social media posts and wishing you were there.

  • Check your sites: Anyone fully active in the promo world has several sites and agencies they get bookings through. Some that i love and prefer are Assist Marketing, Attack Marketing, PUSH Models and Victory Marketing. These Sites allow you to create your own page and apply for jobs in your area but you have to check the sites regularly to apply.
  • Update your photos!!: I cant say this enough! Staying active on your pages and keeping updated photos is so important. If your pic is you with brown hair and you show up with blonde hair to an event your booking agent could be thrown off. Maybe you got booked because you have a specific look...
  • Be Reliable: I have been a Brand Ambassador and a Booking Manager and I can tell you that the worst thing on the planet is a unreliable worker. Show up on time, in proper uniform, ready to work.
  • Keep in contact with your Booking Manager: let them know you are on your way, you enjoyed the promo, and hope to work with them again.
  • Complete all recaps!: most companies will ask the team lead to complete a recap. Brands often ask for these so they can have an idea of how things went. Even if you are not required it is always great to send a recap of the event to your coordinator.
  • Send Event Photos: cover the event with photography and send them to your coordinator to see first hand how you looked, how the event went, and proof you were there.
  • USE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA: This is also not a requirement for your job but if you can properly use social media and bring awareness to the event taking place, the company your working for,  etc you become a brand ambassador or major worth.
Take these tips and use them for your next promo booking and see if it helps! Most importantly have FUN and be professional and you will be the ideal candidate for any company!!
XOXO
